Not Enough Champagne

Not Enough Champagne is a podcast about people, politics and pragmatism. Cory Hazlehurst and Steve Haynes discuss political matters from a moderate perspective. We try and take a step back from partisan bickering to discuss how parties can compromise and bring about change for the better.

***This episode was recorded before the events in Manchester on Tuesday***

Steve and Cory discuss what's in the party's manifestos. Is it actually the Conservative Manifesto that harks back to the 1970s? Is Labour's Manifesto the longest suicide note in history, or 10% more radical than George Osborne? We also try and make sense of the Tory social care plans.

In this mini-episode, we discuss why the CPS did not press for criminal charges in the elections expenses scandal. We also talk about the wishful thinking of some and how it became a textbook example of how not to think about a political issue.

On Not Enough Champagne this week, we assess the election campaign with less than 20 days to go. Labour is closing the gap in the opinion polls, but will those supporters actually turn up and vote? The Conservatives have actually said something interesting: we talk about the the politics of their plans for social care. We also discuss how Tim Farron is hobbling the Liberal Democrat campaign, and the UKIP annual tradition of suspending one of their candidates for saying something racist.

In this podcast, Cory and LJ discuss which seats in Birmingham are safe as houses, which are truly marginal, and try and make some predictions as to which seats will be Labour, Conservative or Liberal Democrat on June 8th.

In this second Birmingham Fabians podcast, LJ and I discuss the result of the West Midlands Mayoral Election. Topics include: why was our vote prediction 99.84% accurate, did Andy Street buy the election, and which James Bond would Sion Simon be?

Not Enough Champagne returns on Sunday and Birmingham Fabians have two more podcasts coming up before June 8th. Subscribe to us on Itunes or follow us on Twitter @bhamfabians

In this episode, Steve and Cory discuss all things polling in the General Election. Why did the polls get it so wrong in 2015, why was the reporting of the polls so misleading in 2016, and will the 2017 election be decided by the election campaigns or by longer term trends?

In this episode, Steve and Cory discuss the campaigns so far. We discuss Lynton Crosby's "dead cat on the table" theory and how that's playing out so far. Also, we talk about what Labour's slogan should be, and try not to repeat the Tory attack lines.

It's just Cory and Steve in the bunker this week. We discuss whether local election results are a good predictor of the general election, and also the realignment of the right after the collapse of UKIP.

There will be a new episode in the week covering the general election campaign so far and Birmingham Fabian podcasts about the Mayoral Election as well.
